PC-09 is a DX-pedition by a group of BMARC members to Poeppels Corner that was conducted over the period 29 August - 12 September 2009. These pages document the plans and report on the trip.
Poeppels Corner is located at lattitude 26.00deg south and longitude 138.00deg east. It is the intersection of the borders of South Australia, Queensland and The Northern Territory. It is named after the South Australian Government Surveyor, Augustus Poeppel, who in 1880 marked the corner with a timber post. Poeppel carved the names of the three states into the post along with the latitude and longitude. Unfortunately he miscalculated the location by 300m and the post later had to be relocated.
See the itinerary page for more details but the round trip esimate is 5,300km. We will be travelling in a convoy of 4x4's and motor bikes with about 3 people per car. We already have 6 cars and 5 motor bikes for a total of 18 people planning to join the trip. We will have to close off the books if the numbers get too large. Don't miss out.
The DX-pedition leader is Gunter VK2JAP. There is a Yahoo forum which you can apply to join at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BMARC_outback_2009.
